QLD:Qld mines a boom to state's economy
The mining industry is responsible for one in every five dollars spent in Queensland
and supports one in eight jobs.
Queensland Resources Council's latest economic impact report shows the sector provided
a 25 billion dollar stimulus to the economy last financial year through paying salaries
and suppliers, or investing in community infrastructure and services.
Spending was up 13 per cent from the previous financial year.
QRC Chief MICHAEL ROCHE says the prosperity from the mining boom has not just lined
the pockets of those in the state's southeast.
In the Mackay region, two thirds of the population were employed in the sector, while
around Rockhampton and Gladstone, 55 per cent had jobs in the industry.
