Qld: Brisbane prison officers may strike from Saturday

BRISBANE, Feb 27 AAP - Around 300 inmates at a Brisbane jail could be locked in theircells from early Saturday if prison officers go on strike.

Queensland Public Sector Union (QPSU) spokesman Steven Miles said about 1,000 prisonofficers from around the state held stop-work meetings at 7am today over the increasinguse of casual staff.

Mr Miles said officers at Sir David Longland prison at Wacol, west of Brisbane, mightwalk off the job when they met again on Saturday morning if the state government did notincrease the number of permanent jobs now filled by up to 300 temporary and casual …
