Tas: Man charged over Smithton arson attack

HOBART, Aug 5 AAP - A 25-year-old man has been charged over a fire that destroyed a
vacant house in Tasmania's north-west early yesterday.

Tasmania Fire Service crews were called to the house at 33 Nelson Street, Smithton,
390km north-west of Hobart, about 5.45am (AEST) yesterday.

The house had been unoccupied for a while.

Firefighters found a number of ignition points throughout the house.

Local police and Burnie detectives have charged a 25-year-old local man with one count of arson.

He has been bailed to appear in the Smithton court at a later date.
