PAC: Police abandon Honiara's China town

In the Solomon Islands .. police have abandoned the business and retail heart of the
capital Honiara .. to the mercy of looters and arsonists.

The government's communications unit cites police sources as saying the officers have
decided to leave the Chinatown area .. because of the danger from rioters.

Spokesman JOHNSON HONIMAE says about 90 per cent of commercial buildings there have
been looted and burned.

They include retail and wholesale shops .. and fast food bars.
